Wheel
Creek Restoration Project
WIN A FREE RAIN GARDEN!
Worth thousands of dollars!
If you live in the Wheel Creek
watershed, you may be eligible to win a free rain garden from Harford
County!

A rain garden is a beautiful garden
created with native plants, loose soil, mulch, and sometimes gravel.
Well-maintained rain gardens encourage birds and butterflies to visit
your yard; reduce flooding and run-off problems by soaking up excess
rain; and increase your property value by their beauty. Once
established, rain gardens require no fertilizer and less watering than
most other gardens. Like any attractive garden, some weeding is needed
to keep them looking their best.
If you turn out to be the lucky
winner, you will be eligible to have a rain garden installed by a
professional landscaper completely free of charge.

The Wheel Creek watershed rain
garden project is part of the overall Wheel Creek Restoration Project.
The project will reduce pollution into Wheel Creek and the Bush River by
controlling runoff. Engineering solutions will help to slow down, spread
out, and soak up excess rainwater and runoff. In addition to installing
homeowner rain gardens, the project will install stormwater retrofits,
restore stream reaches, and monitor changes in water quality. Harford
County Department of Public Works is the lead agency, and Maryland’s
2010 Trust Fund is providing financial support.
