Lower Potomac River Watershed Hero:
Bob Boxwell

Bob is well known in the environmental circles in Southern Maryland, so it is only natural that he would have volunteered to become one of the original members of the Lower Potomac Tributary Team. And, Bob has been the Chair of the team since 1999.

Bob is currently the Executive Director of the Cove Point Natural Heritage Foundation, with responsibilities for foundation administration, Educational Programs, and outreach to governmental and environmental organizations. Prior to his Cove Point position, Bob was the Naturalist in charge of Environmental Education for the Calvert Marine Museum.

Some of the highlights in his extensive volunteer activities include the following:

  • Bob is the Group Outing Chair as well as the Webmaster for the Southern Maryland Sierra Club;
  • Bob is very active with the Audubon Society, serving as its chair, and also more recently and the chair of the Conservation Committee, and as the Calvert County representative.
  • Bob is the Southern Maryland coordinator of the Christmas Bird Count
  • And Bob has led literally hundreds of field trips in the region

Bob has been a leader in outreach and educational endeavours with the Lower Potomac Trib team too, chairing successful adult education programs on diverse topics such as Rain gardens; Groundwater and Septic Systems; and Living Shorelines.
