Middle Potomac River Watershed Hero:
David Plummer

David Plummer, Montgomery County Soil Conservation District

David joined the Middle Potomac Tributary many years ago when he was a Forester for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. In those days David worked tirelessly on an assortment of issues in the basin that focused on riparian buffer reforestation and protection.

In his new role as the Office Manager for the Montgomery County Soil Conservation District, David oversees and supervises the design and placement of many agriculture best management practices such as manure holding pits; he also serves as an important liaison between the farm community and the Maryland Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Recently David and Team member George Lechlider pulled their resources together to plan and conduct the superb October 2004 Middle Potomac Tributary Team Agricultural Best Management Practices Farm Tour. In addition, beginning in 2004 David's office has taken on the task of doing extensive outreach and education to the equine community in the Montgomery County portion of the basin – providing important training to horse owners on proper pasture and manure management for this growing agriculture sector.
