Storm Drain Stenciling is a service learning activity for your school, community association, 4-H, Scout, or other youth group.

Storm drains were designed to be the fastest and most efficient way of getting rainwater off streets and parking lots. Unfortunately, the water that flows into your storm drain carries trash and sediment from the street, nutrients in the form of fertilizers, and toxics in the form of pesticides, household cleaners, gasoline and motor oil. All of the water in the storm drains ends up in your local stream or river

Stenciling storm drains in your community may discourage people from putting harmful items and trash in the drains!

Raise awareness about storm drains that empty into the Chesapeake Bay or your local river or stream. A refundable $25 deposit is required. Stencils and directions are included. You must contact your local Department of Public Works before you begin stenciling.

Please fill out the registration form and read the directions.

Use these Project WET activities as a pre-activity or follow-up to your storm drain stenciling action project.
