Gather about 10 common natural objects such as rocks, seeds, conifer cones, plant parts, feathers, and other things you would find in your back yard.
Lay the objects out on a bandana and cover them with another bandana.
Gather the children around and tell them:
“Under this cloth are 10 natural objects that you will be able to find in this area. I will lift the cloth for 25 seconds so you can take a good look and try to remember everything you see.”

After showing them the objects, ask the children to look around the yard and try to collect similar items. After about five minutes, call them back.
Dramatically pull the objects from under the
bandana, one at a time. You can tell interesting stories about each one. If
you don’t know much about the object, describe its color, shape, smoothness,
smell, or any other distinguishing characteristic. As each object is
presented, ask the children if they found one similar to it.
Children have a natural curiosity about the kinds of thing you’ll show
them—rocks, seeds, plants. Repeat the game several times and it may
strengthen the child’s memory and concentration. Also, try it in a different
location such as a local park, the beach, or while on vacation.
