Having Fun Catching So Many Fish

Type: Freshwater
Region: Central
Location: Bynum Run Pond Fishing Rodeo
Tags: Bynum Run Pond Fishing Rodeo, Catfish, Sunfish, trutle

I love to fish. I had a lot fun fishing when I went to the fishing rodeo. I caught so many fish, catfish, sunfish, and even a turtle. I caught big fish and little fish. I caught so many fish and I was having so much fun at the pond.

I invited my best friend to fish with us and he had a lot of fun too. After the tournament was over and I caught all my fish, they were calling numbers out for door prizes. They had a boys bike and a girls bike for the door prizes for the kids. My number was called (for the girls bike). I won the girls bike and I was embarrassed by winning the girls bike but I knew just who I was going to give it to, my best friend sister, Julia. She is a really nice little girl. I might not have won the fishing tournament but I'm happy that I gave a person a gift and I had a great time fishing.

Fishing is Fun With Family and Friends

Type: Freshwater
Region: Central
Location: Bynum Run Pond Fishing Rodeo
Tags: Bynum Run Pond Fishing Rodeo, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Catfish, Bluegills

What I like about the fishing tournaments are, that we can have fun with our families. We have memories of fun times when we catch all the fish. I love catching big fish like Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, catfish, Bluegills and more.

When the days are slow with catching fish and we don't really catch anything, we go and catch the little fish at a pond my Dad knows, just so we can have fun. My Dad helps us out with teaching us how to catch the really big fish, and helps my brother and I know what bait to use. My Mom like to cheer us on and take pictures.

I like the different ponds we go to for the tournaments because we catch a different variety of fish. I like the prizes they have too, sometimes we win, and sometimes we loose, but it does not really matter because I have fun fishing with my friends and my family.

Cold Deer Hunting & Fishing Club Youth Catfish Derby

Type: Freshwater
Region: Western
Location: Merson Pond
Tags: Youth Fishing, Catfish

The Cold Deer Hunting & Fishing Club hosted their annual Youth Catfish Derby on Sunday, June 2 at Merson Pond near Thurmont. The club provided all youth with bait, and a "goody" bag with fishing tackle and educational mate

Many volunteers were on hand to assist the 80+ young anglers ranging in age from 1 to 15. Since this was a "Catfish Derby, all fish except catfish had to be released back to the water without being measured. Prizes were awarded for the most catfish, smallest catfish and the largest catfish. Pictured below is a few of the catfish caught during the event. Wyatt, 5, reeled in one just about a big as him. Hunter, 13, was one of the big winners of the day with a 12 lb Blue Catfish . Since this was a Blue Catfish, an invasive species, it was removed (the pond owner also requested that all catfish be removed). DNR Fisheries ask anglers to remove and kill any Blue and Flathead Catfish that they catch. Catch and release of these fish is discouraged, as they are invasive top predators and pose a serious long-term threat to our native species. For more information on Blue Catfish and how to identify them, visit our website. http://dnr.maryland.gov/fisheries/catfish/index.asp

I was there to promote the Maryland Youth Fishing Club and in support of the Youth Component of the Maryland Fishing Challenge featuring Diamond Jim. Robert Toms, III (age 14) was randomly selected from the event's many youth registrants to qualify as a youth finalist in the 2013 Maryland Fishing Challenge Awards Celebration to be held in conjunction with the Maryland Seafood Festival on September 7th at Sandy Point Park. Robert will be awarded one of the many fishing trips donated by our partners.
