My Largest Bass

Type: Freshwater
Region: Southern
Location: Local Pond
Tags: largemouth bass

I went fishing with my dad in a pond in Avenue, Maryland and WOW I had a great surprise. I was using my new fishing pole from the fishing challenge (thank you so much DNR) when all of a sudden, wham something hit my line. It fought for a while and then when I saw it jump out of the water then finally I was able to land the fish. It was a largemouth bass. I wish I would of brought something to measure it because it looked like it was the largest bass that I ever caught.

My First Spanish Mackerel

Type: Chesapeake
Region: Mid Bay
Location: Chesapeake Beach
Tags: Spanish mackerel, bluefish, shad, bay anchovies

On Friday evening, ten year old Nicholas from Owings, Maryland landed this 20 inch Spanish mackerel. This was his first Spanish mackerel ever caught and was the first of two boated that evening, along with a number of bluefish. We were trolling the ledge just off Chesapeake Beach using #1 and #2 planers with spoons. There were numerous schools of shad and bay anchovies active that evening that we found by looking for the diving birds. After trolling for a couple hours, we broke out the light-action poles and cast into the bait fish schools with lures nabbing several Bluefish. A great time was had that evening!

Perfect Day For Fishing

I went fishing today with my dad. We went to our favorite fishing spot at Loch Raven Reservoir. I caught two fish. I used the new bait I bought from the suggestion of Ron the awesome customer representative in the Fishing Department at Bass Pro in Arundel Mills, Hanover, Maryland. I went shopping on Saturday with my Bass Pro Gift Card I won. Ron was awesome and he spent a long time giving me fishing tips to catch that big bass one day! The weather today was a perfect day to be fishing. I also met a new friend fishing today. It was another great day at Loch Raven Reservoir.

Surf Fishing at Flag Harbor

Location: Flag Harbor Beach in Late Evening
Tide: Flood and the Wind: 15-20 NE
Method: Surf fishing using Blood worms/ Cut Bait

On Saturday evening, Nathan tried out his new fishing reel combo he won from the Maryland Fishing Challenge off the beach at Flag Harbor. He caught a lot of spot, bluefish, and whiting. The big surprise was a nice 19 in rockfish that gave his new rod/reel combo a fighting challenge but Nathan came out on top and landed the fish. Thank you to DNR and Bass Pro Shop for sponsoring this great youth program!
