Diamond Jim Tagging With Friends

Type: Chesapeake
Location: Chesapeake Bay

Last week I went to tag Diamond Jim with my friend, Justen. We had so much fun fishing. At first the fish were not biting but then, the fish started biting all the lines we couldn't keep up with them. We were tagging so many rockfish. After a while we got a big bite and me and my friend had to bring it in together. We had a huge rockfish on our fishing rod. It was 29 inches, a big keeper. We caught a lot of rockfish and tagged them all and had fun. The captain of the boat Patience, Captain Tom Ireland was so nice. He showed us how to read a fish finder and to know when the fish were coming close. The biologist that was tagging the fish was very nice too. His name is Jeff. He told us all about rockfish and about the water we were fishing in. He let us help him, even my Mom helped him record the measurements of the rockfish. We all had so much fun. Thank you for a wonderful time.

Tournament Fishing With My Sister

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Down's State Park

My sister and I went to a fishing tournament in Pasadena, MD. We woke up early and my family drove to Down's State Park where the tournament was being held. We arrived and they had us get our worms and go out on the pier. We choose a place near the end of the pier, where I thought the fish would be biting the best. We put our worms on our hooks and we dropped our lines in the water. Before you know it a boy across from us caught a 13 inch catfish. Ugh, I knew after that it would be tough to beat. We were catching Spots, White Perch, and my sister even caught a rockfish. After they told us our time was up and it was lunch time, they fed us hotdogs, chip, cookies, and a drink. They had a casting contest with prizes and they had a door prize contest. I won a door prize from the contest, a fishing scale. I was excited about winning a fishing scale. I need it to weigh and measure all my fish. We had a really good time there. It was a lot fun.

My Trip on the Miss Chesapeake

Type: Chesapeake

It was a long drive to the marina, but it was worth the drive. My mother took me to Cheasapeake Beach and we went on a fishing boat from there out of the marina. We had so much fun and we caught so many fish. We started off with using bloodworms and we used a double hook. Then later my mother cut up some fish called LY for bait and we started fishing for all kinds of fish. We were catching Spot fish, Croaker, White Perch and the rockfish were even biting. Catching so many fish, two at a time. I was working hard just trying to keep up taking the fish off the lines. I really enjoyed that trip, it was a lot of fun.

Youth Angler Log

Type: Chesapeake
Region: Upper Bay
Location: Pooles Island

This weekend I went on the boat with my family for the first time this year. We got the boat in the water and I was excited , I wondered what I would catch . We got on the boat and headed out , I got the lines in the water and we waited for them to bite. It took a while but we caught so many fish. We caught a lot of Croakers, two White Perch, 3 Eels , and I almost caught a very large Rockfish . I was very disappointed that I didn't catch the Rockfish but I had so much fun on the boat fishing. I can't wait until we go out again so I can catch that Rockfish that got away.

Fun Time Ocean City Fishing

Type: Coast
Region: Eastern
Location: Ocean City

We arived in Ocean City, MD late in the evening, but that didn't stop me from wanting to go fishing on the pier. I was so excited just to get my line in the water. I begged my mother to stop and get bloodworms for me. I cut my bait up and stuck it on the hook and dropped my line into the water. This would be the first time I would be fishing this late in the evening. I was not sure what I was going to catch on my line below the dark water, just as I was wondering it hit, my line pulled and my heart raced. What was I going to catch? I realled my line in and saw that I caught a 12 inch Spot. I didn't care what I was catching I was so excited just to get out and fish on the water.
