Freshwater Fishing in Central MD

Type: Freshwater
Region: Central
Location: Central MD Pond

Just thought I'd send a few pics of our recent pond catches throughout central Maryland. We have been doing well on bass to 5 pounds, channel cats to 8 pounds and numerous large bluegill that are just about ready to nest.

Bluegill fishing is great fun and they taste great as well, but I would encourage anglers to release the high majority of the adult male bluegills to sustain quality panfish fisheries. You can't hardly fish down numbers, but angling pressure can surely fish down size structure, as too many adult sized panfish are harvested.

Releasing trophy panfish is the 'final frontier' of catch and release angling in freshwater fishing in America today. These gills ranged from 10 to 11.25 inches and the bass were up to 19 inches, all released and all on 2 pound test with 1/64th and 1/80th oz jigs. Micro-light is a hoot!
