Caught My First Red Drum
Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: North Beach Pier
On Oct. 19th I fished the North Beach Pier for about three hours, catching mostly small spot and white perch. I was packing up my gear about ready to go home when the last rod to be unrigged gave the unmistakable twitch of a heavier fish. The spot, now being used as bait, enticed this lovely puppy drum to the hook. I've fished the Gulf piers from Texas to Tampa and never caught one. Nice to be home in Maryland to log my first ever red drum--a 16-incher safely released!
