Channel Cat on the Potomac
Type: Non-tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Potomac at Sycamore Island
I just caught this great channel catfish on the Potomac at Sycamore Island. It's just upstream of the last dam on the river, I believe, between the MD/DC border and the I-495 bridge. I was using chicken gizzards on a bottom rig from the shore into the main channel when I caught this channel cat around 30 pounds. Not much fight, but reeling in something that heavy is a treat. I was a little surprised that large a cat was in the area, because that means there are even bigger ones there and it's relatively fast moving water.
