Nanticoke River Blue Catfish
Location: Nanticoke River
My sister Amy caught this 26 inch Blue Catfish during a family fishing trip to the Maryland Eastern Shore on the Nanticoke River. We fish the lower Potomac on a regular basis for the monster Blue Cats and decided to hit the Nanticoke for a change of pace and scenery. Amy was in shock from the fight of the fish on light tackle. I was in shock when I netted the fish and realized that it was a Blue Cat. I am aware of reports of Blue Cats on the Choptank but I was not aware of any confirmed reports on the Nanticoke. I called DNR and reported the fish to the DNR fisheries biologist. The fish ended up in the frying pan. We all hope that this species does not spread like wildfire and take over the rivers on the eastern shore like they have in the Potomac. Happy Fishing!
