Bear Creek Chain Pickerel

Type: Tidal
Region: Central
Location: Merrit Point Park

I was fishing at Merritt Point Park located on Bear Creek in the upper bay when I caught this pike using a rat'l trap he was released unharmed, are they common to these waters? I have never heard off them being caught here.

DNR Response: Hello John, you caught a Chain Pickerel, not a Northern Pike. The Chain Pickerel is one of our most common species of fish in the lakes, ponds and tidal rivers of Maryland, especially the eastern shore.
