Gary Kuhn | 18 lbs., 3 oz | 08/03/01 | For the second time in 2001, the brown trout State record was broken on August 3, 2001 on the North Branch of the Potomac River near Barnum. Angler, Gary Kuhn of Elk Garden, WV, caught the 18 pound, 3 ounce bruiser, which measured 33 inches with a 19 inch girth. He was using light spinning tackle with 4 pound test and a #9 Rainbow Rapala. It took 40 to 45 minutes to reel in the trout. Western Regional Manager, Ken Pavol, confirmed the State record at BJ's in Swanton, MD. This brown trout surpasses the previous State record set back in March by almost 5 pounds! |

Edward Martin | 13 lbs., 7.5 oz | 03/01/01 | "Dad, I've got a monster on!" An angler across the river turned to watch while 23 year old Martin battled the big one for just over 30 minutes. All three men wondered if they would have a big enough landing net. Martin landed the monster brown trout on March 1, 2001 while fishing the Barnum area of the North Branch of the Potomac River. Not far from where his father, David G. Martin, caught his record cutthroat trout last May. The brown trout took a Rapala plug on 6 pound test. This is Martins lucky lure he found the day before catching the record fish. BJ's in Savage, Maryland checked in the fish, which measured 30.5 inches with a 16 inch girth. |
