2014 Maryland Black Bear Hunt: How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in Maryland’s Black Bear Hunting Permit Lottery.  Applications will be accepted from July 14, 2014 until August 31, 2014. 

Hunters can apply 24/7 at the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) COMPASS Online Licensing and Registration Service. 

To apply online, visit:

  • To apply for the Black Bear Hunting Permit Lottery, you must either log in to your existing COMPASS account or create a new COMPASS account. 
  • Each COMPASS account holder has a unique DNRid. 
  • This DNRid will be the unique number identifying you in the black bear lottery and preference point system.
  • Once logged in to COMPASS, choose ‘Purchase New License’ and select ‘2014 Black Bear Lottery’. 
  • Applicants not wishing to participate in the 2014 Black Bear Hunt may purchase a ‘Preference Point only’ that will then be applied to next year’s lottery drawing.
  • You can confirm your purchase or print a receipt by selecting ‘View Order History’ on your COMPASS account homepage.

Only one application per person will be accepted. Duplicate applications will result in disqualification and forfeiture of all fees.

Note: When the winners are announced on this page in September, the winning numbers will be the DNRid numbers.
