Maryland Professional Employees Council
Why is MPEC important to me?
Through contract negotiations and legislative action, MPEC works to secure improvements in wages, benefits, and working conditions for state professionals. Other activities of MPEC include working to enhance the public image of state professionals, making state professionals aware of their political rights and responsibilities as citizens and encouraging their participation in the political process.
- If I am a member of Bargaining Unit "G" am I automatically a member of MPEC?
No. While MPEC negotiates contracts on behalf of all those working in positions designated in Bargaining Unit "G", it can only be responsive to the needs and reflective of the concerns of enrolled union members. Only through your joining MPEC, and participating in the direction of the union can we continue to build the strength of membership needed to ensure that state-employed professionals have a stronger voice in decisions that affect their work and career. The union is a vehicle through which you can get your concerns heard, and addressed. The union is only as strong as it's membership.
- Services
Some of the services that MPEC provides to its members include negotiations on salaries and benefits, grievance handling and legal representation, legislative advocacy and research on issues and trends affecting state professionals such as privatization, salary studies and pay for performance programs.
- AFT and AFT-Maryland
Members of MPEC are part of the Public Employees Division of the American Federation of Teachers - the AFT. and as a part of this 980,000-member group when you join MPEC you are entitled to many additional benefits and services through the AFT’s national organization and the AFT-Maryland state federation.
