Library Receives over 200 Books from NOAA
Coastal Services Center
October 1, 2008
In October 2008, the library received over 200 books
donated by the NOAA Coastal Services Center. These items
greatly improve the library's collection in coastal zone
planning, fisheries, sustainable development, management, and
many other topics. All items can be checked out by DNR staff.
DNR field staff should contact the librarian and materials
will be sent to them.

Library Hosts New Books Party
July 30, 2008
On July 30, 2008, the Carter Library hosted a New Books
Party to celebrate and promote the new books and DNR
publications acquired in the past year at the DNR library. In
total, over 60 people stopped by for snacks and the chance to
review the new books, and over 30 books were checked out!

Library Creates Bibliography of DNR Authors in the Scientific Literature

The library has created a new online
bibliography of peer-reviewed journal
articles, books, book chapters, and published conference
proceedings authored by DNR employees at their time of
employment at DNR. Click here to

Library Participates in 2008 DNR Green Fair
April 17, 2008
On April 17, 2008, the library participated in the first
ever DNR Green Fair, sponsored by the DNR Office for a
Sustainable Future. The library provided information about
library services, a display of library books and journals, and
lots of free handout.

Library Hosts Leap Day Bake Off
February 29, 2008
On Feb. 29th, the Carter Library hosted a bake-off,
challenging DNR employees to bring their best. 12
mouth-watering items were entered in the competition, and over
70 people stopped by to taste and vote on their favorites.

Library Opens Office for Field Staff Use
October 1, 2007
Now DNR Field Staff can get comfortable when they visit Tawes. There's a computer, desk, and telephone in the library especially for field staff, with access to the internet, intranet, printer, fax machine, and photocopier.
Library Surprises Tawes Staff with Breakfast and Information
September 26, 2007
The librarian with assistance from invertebrate ecologist Jen Selfridge surprised Tawes staff as they arrived to work with free donuts, homemade cookies, and information about library services. A selection of books dealing with sustainability were available for check-out, as well as a bibliography of sustainability resources in the library and online.
New Shelving Doubles Space for Journals
August 28, 2007
Thanks to the Oxford Research Lab, the library received 765 linear feet of metal library shelving at no cost. This more than doubles the space for journals in the library. Many thanks to the staff at Oxford, Matapeake, and Tawes who all pitched in to move, unload, and set up the shelves!!
Fisheries Funds Journal Subscriptions
May 4, 2007
Fisheries has funded print and online subscriptions to the Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences and American Fisheries Society journals including Fisheries, Journal of Aquatic Animal Health, North American Journal of Aquaculture, North American Journal of Fisheries Management, and Transactions of the American Fisheries Society. DNR employees can access the online subscriptions or visit the library to use the print copies.
