Resources Recommended Gear and Safety Tips
- Leave a trip plan with a family member.
- U.S. Geological Survey topo maps are recommended. Most of the hunting area appears on the Catoctin Furnace quadrangle.
- Fluorescent orange is required for all hunters and any persons who accompany a hunter, except for bowhunters during season restricted to bowhunting.
- The wildlands area of Cunningham Falls is for multi-use. Please be aware and respect other park users, especially during peak leaf color in October.
- Practice safe firearms handling at all times. Respect 150' safety zones around buildings and developed areas of the park. Be positive of your target while shooting and be aware of the area behind your target.
- Use of tree stands is limited to those of a temporary nature, which must be removed at the end of each day. Many hunting accidents occur from tree stands, so exercise extreme caution while mounting and dismounting. Use special caution with your weapon.
- Follow Leave No Trace outdoor ethics.
