Introduction To Quest
Discover all that our park has to offer by completing a scavenger hunt that is fun for all ages. Decipher clues that will guide you to one of the park’s key features as well as the next clue.
Start your quest at the park's headquarters, the first building to the right as you enter the park ages. There is a box outside the main door where teams can pick up their quest worksheet. At each station, there will be an engraved placard with a set of crayons. Use and return one of the crayons to create a crayon rubbing of the engraved placard; each additional rubbing will reveal more and more of the complete picture. The completed picture will be your stamp of approval for completing the Janes Island Park Quest!Color-specific crayons will be available at each engraving site and should remain at their respective sites. No advance registration is required. If no crayons are available or if engravings are vandalized please call the Ranger on Duty at 443-477-0911.
Portions of this quest require being in direct sunlight and hiking in forested areas. Adult supervision is required for climbing the observation tower. Teams are encouraged to bring sunscreen, tick/bug repellant, water, and snacks. The Quest is available sunrise to sunset all year long. Bathrooms are available at the marina and camp grounds during the camping season (March 30 through November 25). The park store is open from midday to evening during the camping season. Try to visit the park on weekdays as weekends become crowded with campers.
Bonus Quest - Salt Marsh Scenic Scull
Salt marshes are one of the most crucial ecosystems found in Maryland. They support a wide diversity of life from plants and insects to fish, waterfowl, raptors, and even humans. Take a boat for a paddle down one of our water trails and learn more about salt marshes by reading the interpretive signs you find along the way. Each sign contains a clue to the combination of the locked Park Quest box at the Marina which contains the stamp of approval for completing this Bonus Quest.
The Bonus Quest is available Monday through Thursday from early May to late September. Teams are strongly encouraged to bring their own canoes or kayaks. Rental canoes and kayaks are only available if weather permits. Please call the park on the day of your planned arrival to check for weather-dependent availability at 410-968-1565.
