BALD EAGLE $100.00
WHY THEY COME INTO OUR CARE
- Like all the birds under the care of Scales and Tales, the Bald Eagle has been injured and these injuries prevent its release back into the wild.
- Despite strict regulations protecting this important bird, shooting continues to be a significant cause of mortality. This senseless poaching often leaves Eagles permanently disabled.
- Since Eagles are frequent fish eaters, debris in the water, especially fishing line, can cause them to become entangled and lead to drowning or permanent injury.
- Occasionally, Bald Eagles, like many other raptors, will sustain terrible wing injuries when they collide with high tension wires.
WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THIS?
- Not only is the Bald Eagle our national emblem, but it is a very important predator helping keep the balance of nature in tact. Shooting and injuring them not only carries severe fines and possible jail time, removing them from the environment will have a significant negative effect on that balance.
- Litter, such as fishing line, plastic bags, or six-pack rings often makes its way to our waterways, where it lurks beneath the surface, waiting to trap and kill or injure an animal. Remember, trash free is the way to be.
