Family cycling down the trail towards Kent Narrows
Cross Island Trail
A map of the area The Cross Island Trail is a linear park in Queen Anne's County offering an avenue of safe non-vehicular transportation for citizens. The trail was initiated in 1998 and completed in September 2001. The Cross Island Trail spans Kent Island west and east, from Terrapin Nature Park on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay to the Kent Narrows.

The Cross Island Trail presents pedestrians, runners and cyclists a specialized recreational facility for enjoyment of the great outdoors. The trail affords natural vistas and unique opportunities to view wildlife in an environmentally-sensitive designed setting. The trail experience affords something for everyone, including: canopied forests, economic and entertainment centers, bridges over streams and access to public parks.

The trail corridor is a 10 foot wide paved surface approximately six miles in length. The dedicated trail easements are 25 to 50 feet wide. This project was made possible through funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation Enhancement Programs (ISTEA and TEA-21), the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Program Open Space (POS) and Queen Anne's County.

Parking

There are several locations for off-street parking along the trail. From west to east parking is available at the Terrapin Nature Park, Old Love Point Park, Castle Marina Road, Kent Narrows Boat Launching Ramp, the Chesapeake Exploration Center and the public lots beneath the Kent Narrows U.S. 50/301 Bridge. These lots are open daily from sunrise to sunset.

Trail Etiquette
