Volunteer With Rocks State Park

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers at Rocks State Park.

Adopt-A-Garden

Rocks State Park is looking for someone or some group to care for the gardens in our three picnic areas, each with its own individual garden needs. The Hills Grove garden is in a sunny spot located on a slope, with a mixture of native and non-native plants. The Rock Ridge garden is in the shade of several large trees, and contains a few ferns, lots of decorative rocks and spring blooming bulbs on a slope. The Wilsonsí garden is the smallest of the three. It gets lots of sun, is flat and is dominated with over-grown shrubs.

Public Relations/Visitor Services

During the off-season months, Rocks office is looking for someone who loves people to work the office on the weekends. During the spring, summer and fall volunteers are needed to fill-in at the contact stations, sometimes on short notice. Rocks State Park is busy year around and our visitors, some who come from all over the world, are always stopping at the office and contact stations to ask directions to the King and Queen Seat or Kilgore Falls at Falling Branch.

Interpretation and Programming

With a small staff, we are not always able to provide programs for the summer and special requests throughout the year. If you love nature or history and want to pass your knowledge and enthusiasm along to others, then this is your chance. A background check will need to be done.

Volunteer Rangers

Volunteer Rangers will assist the park staff in every aspect of the operation of the park. All Volunteer Rangers must be 18 years of age or older. After accruing 40 hours of volunteer service within the park, interested volunteers attend training for Volunteer Ranger certification. Volunteer Rangers commit to 100 hours of service per year.

Special Skills

Want to use skills learned on the job or just as a hobby? Automobile or small engine mechanic, wood shop enthusiast, photographer, artist, and tree, plant or bird specialists are also needed to assist staff with special projects and general shop work.

Group Volunteers

This is for schools, churches, youth groups/scouts, and businesses that are looking to volunteer on a large project for a day or two. The jobs may involve any of the above mentioned areas of service. We are also open to suggestions for project ideas.
