Another Maryland State Fair is now in the history book. Many thanks
to everyone who supported the Maryland Park Service's exhibit at
this year's state fair. The uniformed park staff and our many
dedicated volunteers gave us a very visible and professional
presence. We were represented by 13 state parks (9 Park Quest parks,
5 Scales & Tales parks and one state park which is neither). There
were volunteers from 4 Friends groups, 2 Volunteer Mounted Patrols,
4 Park Quest Finale teams, and 6 state parks. We were visited by the
Governor, the Lieutenant Governor and the Baltimore County
Executive. We received over 150 requests for Park Quest 2010
information from people who visited our exhibit.
A VERY BIG special thank you to the volunteers (including 6 members
of the Patapsco Valley State Park Volunteer Mounted Patrol) who
staffed the exhibit on Friday, September 4th when Maryland Park
Service personnel were not able to participate due to the mandated
service reduction day that is part of the recent state budget cuts.
Had it not been for your efforts, there would have been no Maryland
Park Service presence at the state fair that day.
Thanks again to all our volunteers for their help and I hope that
everyone enjoyed the state fair.
