Orange Grove Cleanup – Patapsco Valley State Park
The Friends of Patapsco Valley & Heritage Greenway sponsored a cleanup on Sunday, October 23, 2011 along the Patapsco River in the Orange Grove Area of Patapsco Valley State Park! Special thanks to Principal Debbie Rosenberg of Beit Tikvah, and the students of Kesher School and their families!
With 30 volunteers, the volunteers were able to remove an estimated 400 pounds of trash and debris from the Patapsco River watershed in just two hours! Besides the usual plastic bags, aluminum cans, food wrappers and glass/plastic bottles, some of the more interesting things collected were: a boot, tires, pair of pants, boxer shorts, glove, shoe laces, green rubber mat, pair of socks, fork, radio, sand bags, phone, electrical wires, foam cushion, hub cap, sweater, flip flop, broken glass, orange construction barrier barrel, soccer ball, big black plastic pipe, futon mattress, trash can lid, part of a bridge and a woolen cap from the Scottish Islands!
Most of this debris was a direct result of Tropical Storm Lee on September 7th. It caused the river to rise high on the its banks leaving much of the debris hanging in the trees!
Special thanks to the Friends of Patapsco Valley & Heritage Greenway on a job well done!
