Bring the outside into your classroom with these unique hands-on, interdisciplinary teaching tools. These education trunks are designed to educate students while building on fundamental disciplines like math, art, social studies, science, language arts and physical education.
Education Trunks are available free to educators in Maryland for a one to two week period, depending on availability. Please call the location nearest you to reserve an education trunk. You will be responsible for picking up and dropping off the education trunk(s) at their appropriate location.

Types of Education Trunks Available:
White-tailed Deer Education Trunk
This education trunk provides educational information and materials pertaining to white-tailed deer biology, history, management, recreational opportunities and impacts that deer have on landscapes and people in Maryland. The trunk provides teachers with ready-made lesson plans including activities for students in grade levels K – 12 that are engaging and informative.
The contents include: a teacher’s curriculum guide, two
beautifully illustrated books, a “deer sounds” CD, deer hide,
antler, buckskin, antler buttons and film. It contains a track
mold, track replica, scat replica and skull with jawbone. Also
included are many deer activity pages and activities from the
Project Wild curriculum.
Black Bear Education Trunk
This education trunk provides educational information and materials pertaining to Black Bear biology, history, habitat, management, and impacts that bear have on landscapes and people in Maryland. The trunk provides teachers with ready-made lesson plans including activities for students in grade levels K – 12 that are engaging and informative.
Each teacher trunk contains a black bear hide, track, skull and
scat replica, along with a slide show, video, brochure and
curriculum guide. Also included are many bear activity pages and
activities from the Project Wild curriculum.
Furbearer Education Trunk
This education trunk is designed to provide hands-on material and activities to teach about the 14 species of furbearers found in Maryland. The curriculum guide focuses on the history of the fur trade, biology and ecology of Maryland’s furbearers and management of furbearers. The trunk provides ready-made lessons for educating students in grades K-12. The contents of the trunk includes: curriculum guide, furs, skulls, tracks, scats, books, a raccoon hand puppet, Outdoors Maryland DVDs, supplies to run activities and a PowerPoint related to Maryland’s furbearers.
