New Sunday Turkey Hunting
Opportunities to Open in Several Counties

Legislation passed during the 2012 Session of the General Assembly permits hunting on Sundays during the spring turkey season in Calvert, Caroline, Charles, Dorchester and St. Mary’s counties.

Turkey hunting will be permitted in these counties on private land only on the following Sundays: April 15 (Junior hunters only), April 22, April 29, May 6, May 13 and May 20, 2012.

“We are excited to offer these additional Sunday hunting opportunities for turkey hunters,” stated Paul Peditto, DNR’s Wildlife and Heritage Service Director.

This legislation was enacted in the form of emergency bills, allowing the changes to take effect for the 2012 season even though these dates are not listed in the 2011-2012 Maryland Guide to Hunting & Trapping.

Hunters are reminded that Sunday hunting is already permitted in Garrett and Allegany counties on April 29 and May 6. Both private and public lands are open for Sunday hunting in these two western Maryland counties.
