Susquehanna State Park

Sand Islands

Located about 2.5 miles South of the town of Havre de Grace, in the waters of the Susquehanna Flats area of the Chesapeake Bay, are two small sand islands. These islands are frequent stops for boaters out enjoying the sun and waters of the Chesapeake Bay.

Although Camping, Alcohol, and Fires are prohibited, visitors can still enjoy having a picnic, laying in the sun, swimming, and fishing from the sand islands from sunrise to sunset.

In addition, during waterfowl hunting season, Susquehanna State Park maintains waterfowl blind site markers on either end of the two sand islands.

A Free Public Hunting Permit is required and available online through COMPASS or anywhere Maryland hunting licenses are sold.

  • Reservations are required and can be made through the Gwynnbrook Wildlife Office at 410-356-9272.
  • All waterfowl sites are water access only.
  • For a full list of regulations and maps visit the Central Region Public Hunting Lands page.
